Putting your weight on His promises

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.
Most buildings are constructed with both load bearing and non-load bearing walls.
Load bearing walls hold the weight of the structure, and have to be designed, engineered, and constructed in a specific way. Like the skeleton for the body, a load bearing wall must carry the weight of many other parts. If you were to remove it, you’re risking a total collapse.
Likewise, putting the weight of the structure onto a wall that isn’t designed to bear it means certain destruction.
We think we know what we need, but God knows what we need.
Trusting in our own understanding is like putting our whole house, our whole life, onto walls that aren’t engineered to hold the weight. Things might look good for a while, but a strong wind or heavy snow spells disaster.
Trusting in the Lord with all our heart puts the weight onto the promises of God: a structure designed by the Architect of the universe.
What is more, He designed us, and when we submit to His plan, following His blueprints for our life, we enjoy His presence and protection.

Lord, help me put my weight on Your promises, and trust that You know what I need better than I do.

2 Peter 1:3-4 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:33-34 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Deuteronomy 33:27a The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath (you) are the everlasting arms.
Isaiah 33:6 He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.

Songwriter Notes: In a sweet writing session with my friend and cowriter Donita, this song began as we discussed Prov. 3:5-6 and what it really meant to not lean on our own understanding. We decided to write it from God’s perspective, how He gently invites us to trust Him.
